What Stories
Do We Seek to Tell?
OF NATURE:
The good conditions of natural habitats in the upper arroyo mountain areas ultimately helped preserve the wildlife activities. There, many rare animals have made the place their home, native plants continue to thrive. Though some now require special protection because of the human activities that largely affected the environment early on.
OF PEOPLE:
We would focus in our stories, the cultures and nations that existed before the major changes were made (Tongva, Serrano people, and other Californian Native Americans). We will also touch on the damages that had been done (dams, flood control and forest fires) and the attempts to improve and restore the environment.
How Do We Tell It?
We decided to incorporate the history of Arroyo Seco as the center of out storytelling. Rather than educating people about the site at a different environment we decided to have people discover the stories of the site while they are in the environment. We do this by making the site as literal timeline, that way people will truly be able to understand the stories of their surroundings in a way that doesn’t strip them away from it’s reality.
